LEARNING ON THE ROAD

These custom workbooks were commissioned by a family traveling to India for several months. The parents wanted to add some local content to their homeschooling program, so I researched, wrote and illustrated multiple booklets to reflect their itinerary and appeal to each child's interests. One of the workbooks, for instance, is all about farming in Rajasthan and the state's traditional rural communities.
Based on P.M. Blaikie's paper "Spatial Organization of Agriculture in Some North Indian Villages: Part II".
ILLUSTRATING THE INDIAN DHANI: PROCESS
In researching this project, I referred to my own experience as an architect in India as well as to essential sources such as Architecture of the Indian Desert by Jain et al, on which the building plans were based.
Building a 3D model is not a obligatory step but it's a useful way of testing out views to determine the most communicative perspective. The image below, from left to right, shows the transition from a 2D AutoCad drawing to a 3D model to the final graphic as rendered in Illustrator.
